Nell S. Steffes, 66, Luna Pier, Michigan, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Kokomo. She was born the daughter of Walter and Callie (Brandenburg) McIntosh, June 4, 1942 in Beattyville, Kentucky. On July 8, 1961, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she married Kenneth Charles Anthony Steffes, who survives.

She was a 1960 graduate of Beattyville High School and had been employed for 10 years in the office and providing childcare at the Bedford Daycare Center. She was a member of the Luna Pier Baptist Church where she had taught children's classes for the past 14 years. Her most important career was being a pastor's wife, where she used her many skills in public speaking and being a teacher for the past 36 years.

She is survived by her husband of Luna Pier, Michigan; daughter, Evelyn Sherwood and her husband Steve of Kokomo; son, Ken Steffes and his wife Michelle of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Steven Sherwood and his wife Sarah; Stephanie Young and her husband Nathan; Chris Steffes, Zac Steffes, Michaela Steffes and Jake Steffes; great-grandson, Josiah Sherwood; brother, Ernie; three sisters, Gracie, Jeanette and Drew. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, five sisters, and one brother.

A service celebrating Nell's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Fairview Baptist Church, 2108 East Vaile Avenue, with Pastor Steve Sherwood officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church on Saturday. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Luna Pier Baptist Church, Luna Pier, Michigan. Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
