SOUTH BEND, IN - Karen Sue Nolan, 76, of South Bend passed away at 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, November 1 in her home.
Karen was born on October 28, 1942 in St. Joseph County to Charles P. Gordon and Wanda J. Gordon Bailey.
Karen lived in the South Bend area most of her life.
She was married on July 21, 1962 in Mishawaka to Jim W. Nolan, her husband of 56 years, who survives.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Wanda F. Bonamarte of Valdese, NC; a nephew, Robert F. Bonamarte IV (and wife Tiffany Joy) of Oak Ridge, TN; a niece, Amy J. Crowder (and husband Greg) of Valdese, NC; three great-nephews, Jonathan Robert Bonamarte and Brandon Cole Bonamarte of Oak Ridge, and Joshua Paul Crowder of Valdese; along with special friends, Sue Clark of South Bend and Jeremy Vicsek of South Bend.
Karen was a self-employed beautician for 50 years.
Besides her love for her customers, she was very devoted to her animals. She cared for many pets during her lifetime and had a deep love for them all.
For hobbies, she loved gardening with flowers and herbs in her yard, cooking and baking for others, traveling, and many other crafts including scrapbooking.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Karen's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 6 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. The family will receive friends on Tuesday in the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in Karen's name be made to any animal organization or Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Pl., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
