Following graduation from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady, John, enlisted with the United States Air Force and served for two years until his honorable discharge in March of 1956. He then went on to a long and successful career as a mail handler for the United States Post Office in Schenectady, NY until his retirement in 1990. He liked to keep busy so all the while he worked days at the post office, he was a gas attendant by evening at High Mills Garage. Following retirement, John worked at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District, as a Custodian. He volunteered his time and bravery to the Ballston Lake Fire Department for several years and he delivered firewood and worked as a driver for the car auctions in his spare time. John was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed making furniture for The Charlton Shop and his family.
John was a devoted husband of 61 years to Beverly (Leonardson) Mooney; father of daughters Robin Stoffer, Debbie Tkatch, and Kimberly Livingston, and sons John and Glenn Mooney; brother of Barbara Olsen and Diane Allen. He is also survived by his fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited and may call on Thursday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM . Masks will not be mandatory for those who are fully vaccinated.
Funeral service will be led by David Tkatch on Friday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors will conclude his services at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
