Henry was the son of Henry Back and Elizabeth Hoffman. He was born in the far southern part of Culpeper County, Virginia that became Madison County, in 1792.

He was seen as living in his father's house, in the Madison County Personal Property Tax Lists, in 1801 and 1802.

He was listed, by his name, in the Personal Property Tax Lists, for the first time, in 1804, when he turned 21 years old (attached to this memorial). His name was listed as "Henry Jr.," and his father was listed as "Henry Sr.," in the next column. Because men were first listed in the Tax Lists when they turned 21 years old, this 1804 Tax List proved that Henry Jr. was born in 1783.

But Henry Jr. was not ever seen again, in any Tax List, nor was he seen in any Census Report. Therefore, it is believed that he died around 1805.

Do not confuse him with the Henry Back who was born in 1785 (February 6, 1785), in Culpeper County, who later married Susannah Maggard--he later lived in Letcher County, Kentucky. That Henry Back was the son of Joseph Back (1745-1819). THESE WERE 2 DIFFERENT MEN NAMED HENRY BACK.

The Henry Back who was born in 1785 was the son of Joseph Back (1745-1819), who was a brother of Henry Back (1743-1809), who was the father of the man on THIS memorial.
