Award-winning journalist and critic Tim Warren died January 26, after an eight-year battle with cancer.
A longtime resident of Silver Spring MD, Tim was a devoted husband, father, and family man. Tim was a multi-skilled journalist with more than 40 years experience as a writer, editor, and copy editor for several daily newspapers, including the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun, and the Washington Star. He also served as a contributing writer for Smithsonian, Washingtonian and other magazines.
He is deeply mourned by his beloved wife of 33 years, Lettie Holman; sons Matthew and Nicholas; brothers Joseph "Jody" Warren (wife Sarah) and Philip Warren (wife Kay); as well as sisters Kyle Warren Ahrold (husband Robbin), Ruth Warren Merkle (husband Scott), Mary McGregor Warren, and Kathleen Warren Giffin (husband John); 11 nieces and nephews and their spouses; 19 grand-nephews and grandnieces, many cousins, and many colleagues and lifelong friends who considered him family.
A memorial service and celebration of life for Tim Warren will take place Saturday, February 2, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2609 North Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207, (703) 527-6800, stmarysarlington.org In lieu of flowers, Tim has requested that those who wish to celebrate his life make contributions in his name to the children's ministries program at St. Mary's.
