Margie R. (Ricks) Morgan
August 23, 1932 ~ June 7, 2021 (age 88)

Margie Ruth Ricks Morgan, age 88, of Shreveport, Louisiana, died on June 7, 2021, in Shreveport Louisiana. She was born August 23, 1932, at her grandparents' house near Hazen, Arkansas, to Drewie and Nina Moody Ricks.

Margie grew up on her family's farm just north of Carlisle, Arkansas. She was the oldest of seven siblings, and she worked many long hours in the cotton fields. She enjoyed playing basketball and graduated from Carlisle High School in 1952. She had a great mind for math and kept the books for the Lakeview Water System for a decade before working at Piggly Wiggly in the coupon department. Since Margie was a skilled seamstress, she later worked for the David Carroll Drapery Service for nearly twenty years.

Worshipping and serving the Lord was extremely important to Margie. She was a godly woman and a dedicated member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Shreveport for over sixty years. She was active in many ways at her church and especially enjoyed serving food on Wednesday nights and helping with Vacation Bible School.

Margie was a kind and giving person. She was quite industrious and was always cooking, cleaning, and doing things for her family and friends. Like a busy bee, she loved puttering around her home, yard, and garden. Working in the garden brought her great delight, and she was proud of her beautiful flowers that bloomed throughout the year. She even weed-eated her own yard until the summer of 2020. During her few moments of relaxation, she liked watching the hummingbirds and other birds.

Margie was predeceased by her parents and her husbands, Bobby Bennett and Morris Morgan. She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Wayne Kerr, brother Bobby Ricks and wife Glenda, and sister Hazel Ricks Lowe and husband Richard.

Margie is survived by her son Ronald Bennett and wife Christine of Austin, Texas; son William (Bill) Morgan and wife Terri, of Shreveport, Louisiana; and son Timothy Morgan and wife Lisa, of Bossier City, Louisiana. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ronald Bennett, Jr., Allen Morgan, Taylor Morgan, Alex Morgan, Karissa Morgan Walsworth and husband Cody, Ben Morgan, and Mary Bennett. Her surviving siblings are sister Dorothy (Pat) Ricks Kerr, brother Larry Ricks, sister Barbara Ricks Phillips and husband Joey, and sister Terry Ricks Ballard and husband Wayne.

Services will be on Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Forest Park Funeral Home on 1201 Louisiana Avenue in Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M., and the funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Reverend William Valentine will officiate, and interment will follow at the Forest Park West Cemetery on 4000 Meriwether Road in Shreveport. Pallbearers will be Margie's sons, grandsons, and grandson-in-law. Afterwards, there will be a time of food and fellowship for the family at Lakeview Baptist Church.
