BURDETTE- Mark Burdette, of Colleyville, Texas, 73, loving husband, father and loyal friend, passed away June 9, 2021.

If you knew Mark, you know he was a patient man who loved his family deeply. He loved well. His unwavering love for Donna left a legacy of fidelity, loyalty, commitment and patience.

From the minute he met Donna, he said they were a team. There was no Mark and Donna. There was Mark/Donna. He was an encourager and never told us we couldn't do something we thought we could.

And, he was proud. He was so proud of his family—his children and his grandchildren. Mark was the grandpa that would show up at the theme party dressed up even if no one else was. He was thoughtful and knew about the children's and grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals, gymnastics, music performances, school events and was present for as many as he could be. When he was with a grandchild, you could see the deep adoration firsthand.

He worked hard his entire life, demonstrating an unwavering work ethic, which he used to advance his career in the airline industry, retiring from American Airlines as the Vice President of Employee Relations in 2011. Mark was also a sought after arbitrator. Mark was an accomplished photographer and saw the world through the end of a lens.

He had the unique ability to capture life and its every moment through candid images that captured the very essence of the person, place or event. You could look at one of his pictures and feel like you were present in the moment and knew the subject in the image.

If he wasn't behind the lens of the camera, he was behind a grill. He mastered the grill early on and family favorites always consisted of one of his grilled meat entrees. His patient soul allowed him to do the slow and steady work of prep, marinating and letting the meat rest, resulting in perfection (almost) every time.

Mark wasn't quick to give advice unless you asked. And then, his words were packed with wisdom that would radiate knowledge and support. He was a beautiful writer, passing his gift down to many of his children and grandchildren. His words were graceful and beautiful and flowed effortlessly.

Mark loved water, boats and traveling. He and Donna traveled the world and saw much of it. Donna said recently, "We have done some extravagant things, and maybe even frivolous things, but we have lived. We have lived our life with no regrets. We lived a life of experiences."

It's hard to fit an entire lifetime of love, legacy, and memories onto a page to share with many. It's hard to find words that accurately capture this man who was steady, faithful, loving, jovial and consistent. It almost feels like a disservice to try and pick just a few things to say to share this wonderful human being. There just aren't enough words. He was accomplished. He was brilliant. He was funny. He was a lifelong learner. He held our family together. He was patient. He was kind. He was creative. He was inventive. He was wise. He was stubborn, (but mostly in a good way). He was gentle. He was so very loved. His son Travis said it best this week if we had to capture it in a few words. He was and is "extraordinarily loving, profoundly loved, and painfully missed."
