Mrs. Rebecca McKaughn Shepherd, 82, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at River Landing Retirement Community, Colfax, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Shepherd, Jr. (J.E.). She is survived by 2 daughters, Karen Wall and husband, Steve of Greensboro, NC and Allison Bradley and husband, Morgan of Lakeland, FL; 2 grandsons, Ryan Wall of Sylva, NC and Alex Wall of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Ken McKaughn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Becky lived in Winston-Salem for most of her
life. Sixteen years after high school, she graduated at the top of her class from WSSU with a B.A. in Arts History (1975). Subsequently, she graduated from UNCG with a Master's of Fine Arts. She was very creative and talented at interior decorating, sewing, drawing, painting, sculpting, knitting, and weaving. In addition, Becky was a wonderful cook and baker and was fondly referred to as the "Martha Stewart of the South." For special occasions, she made chocolate-covered cherries and tiramisu. Becky worked as a graphic illustrator at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and retired very early. She and J.E. enjoyed their vacation homes at Ocean Isle Beach and Hound Ears Club, and they traveled extensively around the world with many buddies. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Robert F. Miller Center at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL, 60601.
