Derek Alan Watson Sr., 69, of California, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at the Hospice House of Kansas City. He was born on September 10, 1951, in London, England, the son of Douglas Watson and Francis Watson, both of whom preceded him in death. Derek was a graduate of the University of Texas and was a proud member of the Longhorn Marching Band. He was united in marriage on April 1, 1992, in Kansas City, Mo. to Lori (Knapp) Watson who preceded him in death on August 26, 2016. He liked traveling, infamous dad jokes, enjoyed playing his instruments, taking care of and being at his home, and loved caring and spending time with his grandson Chubba.

He was a man of strong faith who loved the Lord and had a great love for his family. Survivors include three sons, Derek Alan Watson Jr. of Springfield, Mo., Brandon Fell of Lees Summitt, Mo., bonus son, Dakota Harris of South Korea; three daughters, Chantilly Watson of Independence, Mo., Jamie Watson of San Antonio, Texas, Whitney Williams of Arizona; 12 grandchildren; and loving companion of four years, Claudia Baker of Overland Park, Kan. He was preceded in death by his big sister, Pat Hardin and brother Michael Watson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life following at 7:00 p.m. all at the First Baptist Church of California, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services of California, Mo.
