He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High (where he was captain of the football team) in 1956, and continued his education at Fort Dodge Junior College. On November 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ikenberry.
Phil enjoyed spending time with his family and gathering with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing, yard work, puttering around the garage and watching football and baseball.
Phil is survived by his wife of 61 years: Liz Thompson; 3 children; Beth (Scott) Garlie, Lora (Dan) Ray and Dan Thompson and partner Barry Haley; 6 grandchildren; Adam, Alyson, Samatha, Tyler, and Natalie; and 5 great grandchildren.
