Businessman. Born in St Clair, Illinois, he was a salesman when he became a partner with John "Bud" Hillerich to form the Hillerich and Bradsby Company in 1916. Together at their factory in Louisville, Kentucky, they built baseball bats registered with the U.S. Patent Office as the "Louisville Slugger". By 1923, H&B was selling more bats than any other bat maker in the country for both Major League Baseball and general public usage. To date there are three branches of the H&B company, which produces many products for sports and recreational activities.
