Charles Garvin Knight, 87, of Indianola, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.
Garvin was born May 27, 1934, in Stringer, Mississippi, to Chalmer and Mary Lou Stringer Knight. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He returned to Indianola after his discharge and worked as the Parts Manager at Indianola Motor Company for 47 years prior to his retirement. In 2005, as a favor, he helped assist with a funeral service and that started a 14-year career with what is now Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Garvin was a member of First Baptist Church of Indianola, Gideons International, American Legion Post # 2, and First Families of Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chalmer and Mary Lou Knight; son, Charles Garvin "Pete" Knight, Jr.; brother, Marvin Knight; and sister, Doris Rimmer.
Garvin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Zona Ann Wood Knight of Indianola; daughter in law, Catherine (Chuck) Nelson of Memphis; two grandsons, Charles Garvin "Chas" Knight, III (Nellie) of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Caleb W. Knight (Corinne) of Memphis; step-granddaughter, Emily (Joe) Baker of Memphis; seven great-grandchildren, Lila Piper, Houston, Barrett, Price, Tony, Jackson, and Noah; two nieces; two nephews; and many cousins.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Indianola. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am with Dr. Guy Burke and Rev. Bradley Spealman officiating. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home in Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
