SAN ANGELO - Peggy Joyce Harris, 83, of San Angelo, passed away Friday, June 11 surrounded by her family. She was born July 13, 1937, in San Angelo to Gilbert and Mabel Sanders. Peggy attended San Angelo High School and graduated in the class of 1955.

She then began working at her father's family business, Gandy's Dairy. Peggy married Joel Harris on September 21, 1955, in Albany, TX and had four children.

She had a lifelong passion for rodeo, placing top three in the world twice in the Girls Rodeo Association. Her and Joel carried on that passion through their children and grandchildren traveling to many rodeos over the years, including traveling to Las Vegas in 2019 to watch her grandson, Ty Harris, in his first National Finals Rodeo.

As an avid baker, she never made the same recipe twice and her kitchen was always a place of great joy. She provided encouragement and even tenderhearted critique after every rodeo, basketball game, or event that her children and grandchildren participated in. She was our biggest fan and her words of wisdom taught us much.

A true matriarch, she led her family with strength, humility, kindness and grace for all of her days. She showed us how to love and to live fully, never wavering in her faith and hope. Her gentle spirit and poise were contagious. Her legacy of love is evident and will carry on in all who knew her.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Mabel Sanders; her husband of 59 years, Joel "PawPaw" Harris; and her brothers Milton and Gilbert Sanders.

She is survived by four children, Peggy Ashley and husband Alan of San Angelo, Gil Harris and wife Pam of San Angelo, Wade Harris and wife Lyndra of Poth, Walt Harris of San Angelo, and Dorley Harris of San Angelo.

Granny, as she was known to many, is survived by 13 grandchildren, Jody Ashley of San Angelo; Cody Ashley and wife Kim of San Angelo; Brandon Smith and wife Mirna of Monroe, Louisiana; Lindsey Jost and husband Garrett of Wall; Blayne Harris of San Angelo;, Macy Hartley and husband Nathan of San Angelo; Shae Diaz and husband Ben of Poth; Ty Harris of San Angelo; Cole Harris of Poth; Braden Harris of San Angelo; Brynn Harris of Poth; Wyatt and Cheyenne Harris of San Angelo. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren and brother-in-law, Jerry Harris of Austin.

The family would like to thank Chum Hancock for the love and care she showed Granny during her final months.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15 at Johnson's Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to House of Faith San Angelo, 321 Montecito Drive, San Angelo, TX 76903.

May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
And your family and your children
And their children, and their children.
It is well.
