Gloria Thomas Peterson
December 25, 1929 ~ June 10, 2021 (age 91)

Gloria was a Christmas gift to the world. She was the first child of Clyde and Loraine (English) Thomas of Detroit Michigan. She had two younger sisters, Diane Thomas Duncklee and Julie Thomas Pomber who both with their spouses George Duncklee and Philip Pomber, predeceased her.

Gloria graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Spanish Language Studies. She was an active Alpha Phi sorority sister in college and for much of her life after. After college she moved to Boston Massachusetts to work as a claims adjuster for a large insurance company. She lived in Boston with a group of women who remained close friends for the rest of their lives. She met Patrick Peterson who was stationed in the Boston area while serving in the Air Force. They were married and lived in Detroit and later in Chicago, Tucson and Mullett Lake Michigan, and had three sons, Patrick "Tom" Thomas Peterson, Todd McKinley Peterson, and Timothy Charles Peterson.

While living in Glen Ellyn, IL just West of Chicago, Gloria was a long-time volunteer for the Family Service organization which raised money via their second-hand thrift shop Treasure House to help council low-income folks having marriage difficulties there. She eventually served as President. Gloria is also remembered as excelling in perhaps the most important job of all – spouse, mother, sister and grandmother. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, badminton, cards, and croquet all with her family, swimming in the lake, skiing in the winter, handling the family dog, shooting sports, and preparing consistently incredible meals all the while maintaining a reputation of baking blueberry muffins from scratch nearly every Sunday morning. Her smile and her helpful spirit rose like an umbrella over our entire village.

The family would like to mention our sincere appreciation for the entire staff at The Brook in Cheboygan for their care, attention, and love for Gloria in her final months.

A celebration of Gloria's life will take place in the village later this summer. Arrangements are being handled by her loving husband of 66 years, Patrick Peterson – [email protected], and their three adoring children.
