He was born in Cocke County, TN, to the late Jesse Harvey and Selma Ball Harvey. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Pettus Harvey; his brothers Jesse Jr., Bill, Otis, and Gerald; his sister Doris Saunders; and his grandson Shane Farmer. Doyle is survived by his sons, Dennis and Mike (Michelle); daughters Terry Gamble (Mike), and Carolyn Nalley (Jimmy); his grandchildren Lee Harvey (Amber), Shannon Harvey, Brian Gamble (Stephanie), Derek Harvey, Matt Harvey, and Nick Nalley; his great grandchildren Austin Farmer, Amber Harvey, Maddie Gamble, and Miss Charlotte Gamble ; neighbors whom he considered his children Anna Love Packett and Millie Hallman Kurtz; his brother-in-law who was more like a brother to him, Jim Saunders, and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He is also survived by his faithful pup, Brady.
Doyle served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Belmont Masonic Lodge #627 AF & AM for 42 years and also a member of the Oasis Shrine and York and Scottish Rite. He started his career as a diesel mechanic at Mack trucks in the 1950's. He also worked with his brother and father at their "junk yard", H and H trading post on Wilkinson Blvd. in Belmont. In 1972 he opened Complete Truck Service where he worked until 2000, when he "retired" and began traveling the southeast with his wife selling antiques and opening The Treasure Chest antique mall in Belmont. He was also a regular seller at Metrolina Expo in Charlotte and to this day kept a booth at Catawba River Antique Mall. Doyle never met a stranger. He loved growing a garden and giving away tomatoes everywhere he went. He also discovered a new talent late in life at the age of 81, when he began to draw as a way to pass the time while waiting as his wife Nancy underwent Chemo treatments and even had an exhibit at the Gaston County Museum of Art and also was featured in an article in the Gaston Gazette showcasing his artwork. One of the highlights of his time as an artist was to draw a rendition of the Billy Graham Library and present it to them for Billy to have.
The family would like to thank Novant Hospice, especially his nurse Dana, for their compassionate care.
