Boone County Democrat
August 20, 1914

The death of one of the best known and highly respected citizens of Boone county occurred Tuesday at 10 o’clock p.m., when Samuel Jennings passed away at his home in Mineral Ridge. Mr. Jennings has been apparently in the best of health since recovering from a severe attack of pneumonia about a year and a half ago and ate a very hearty supper Tuesday evening. About the usual time he retired and shortly afterward Mrs. Jennings had occasion to speak to him, but received no reply. Alarmed she placed her hand on him and found that he was dead. Mr. Jennings was at the time of his demise 51 years of age and had resided in Boone county all his life, owning a farm near Mineral Ridge. He had a host of friends, both among those of his own occupation and also the business people of this county, all of whom offer the widow and sons their sincerest sympathy in this sudden bereavement. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his death six sons, two of whom Samuel and Herschel, were present at the time of death. Two sons, George and Archie, reside at Bradegate, Ia. And two, Roy and James, live on farms near Mineral Ridge. The funeral will be held Friday in the Methodist church at Mineral Ridge at 11 o’clock and interment will be there.
