Major League Baseball Player. For fourteen seasons (1958 to 1971), he was a pitcher with the Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Montreal Expos, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics and Pittsburgh Pirates. Born James Timothy Grant, he was a three-sport athlete as he excelled at basketball, football and baseball during his years at Moore Academy in Florida. Signed by the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1954, he made his Major League debut on April 17, 1958 and pitched in 44 games that season. He achieved all star status in 1963 and while with the Minnesota Twins, he was a key member of their American Pennant-winning season in 1965. Grant led the league with 21 wins and 6 shutouts while earning all star status. He pitched in 3 games and recorded 2 victories against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 1965 World Series. He was acquired by the Montreal Expos during the 1968 Baseball Expansion Draft and on April 8, 1969, he earned the distinction as being the first starting pitcher for the Montreal Expos. In 571 career regular season games, he compiled a 145 win, 119 loss record with a 3.63 lifetime ERA in 2,442 innings pitched. After retiring as a player, he served as an analyst on Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics broadcasts.
