Michelle was a US Army Federal civilian employee for over 20 years, and an Army civilian contractor for another 10 years after retiring from Civil Service, serving her country well. She was extremely active in the science fiction community, chairing a large regional SF convention several years running, then running the Art Show department for several more years, while serving on the convention's corporate board for much of that time, and was a driving force of a group that tried twice to bring the World Science Fiction Convention to St. Louis. In addition to involvement in conventions, she was also the long-standing President of the St. Louis Science Fiction Society. She was noted for liking ducks – real, cartoon, rubber, plush, and more, and was a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited despite having no interest in hunting ducks, but a great interest in wildlife, and wildlife habitat, preservation.

Michelle is survived by her husband of 32-plus years, Richard, her son Christopher and his family, Richard's son Kingston and his family, sisters Cathy and Rebecca, a dozen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a number of nephews, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces.
