His father was Everett Edwin Akins, who was born on February 7, 1901, in Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana, USA, and died on January 24, 1988, in Watertown, Carver County, Minnesota, USA. His mother was Jennie Elnida Dahlgren (Akins), also known as "Jean" She was born on August 24, 1900, in Grasston, Pine, Minnesota, USA, and died on July 18, 1961, in Watertown, Carver County, Minnesota, USA.
Jack Akins was married 3 times. His wife is Phyllis Marie Kaubisch Burdette (married in 1992) and his stepsons are Chad and Scott Burdette. He was also previously married to Lynda Beth Henderson (Akins) (married 1964-1984). They had 4 children (Mark Raymond Akins, Heidi Marie Akins, Steven John Akins, Dawn Christine Akins) and adopted 2 children (Chad David Akins, Amy Lynn Akins). Prior to that, he was married from 1957-1960 to Betty Lou Best (Akins) (later became Knochenmus), and they had a daughter, Sherry Lynn Akins (Knochenmus/Solstad).
Jack was buried in the church cemetery at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Akins Family plot, next to his father (Everett Edwin Akins) and his mother (Jennie Elnida Akins, (née Dahlgren). Jack was also buried near his grandfather, (Edwin Julius Akins) and his grandmother (Amanda Henrietta Akins, née Miller). Jack was also buried near his great-grandfather (Jonas Peter Akins) and his great-grandmother (Johanna Sophia Akins, née Oberg).
