Joseph C. James, 93, of Plainfield, N.J., died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, N.J. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. To send condolences, please visit www.higginsfuneralhome.com. Born in Orangeburg, S.C., Joseph resided in Newark, N.J., before moving to Plainfield in 1969. Prior to retiring 26 years ago, Joseph was employed as a welder for Otis Elevator in Harrison, N.J., for over 20 years and Worthington Pump in Harrison for over 20 years. Known as Mr. Fixit, he especially enjoyed fresh and salt water fishing. His son, Steve James, predeceased him. Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Fannie R. Brinson James; two sons, Ronald and his wife, Robin Pat James, of Edison and Joseph L. James IV of Woodcliff Lake, N.J.; a daughter, Lillian E. Davis of Plainfield; a sister, Ruby Yarborough of Newark; two grandchildren, Marcus and Lisa; two great-granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter.
