He retired on Sept. 29, 2006, as a food service worker at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Hollidaysburg, with eight years of service. He was also a self-employed owner of Gary's NASCAR and Sports Shop and Canoe Creek Concessions and worked at Kings Family Restaurant for eight years.
Gary was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. He was a graduate of Cathedral School, Bishop Guilfoyle High School in 1965 and attended Penn State University, Altoona campus, where he studied food service.
He was a past member of Pleasant Valley Lions Club, past member/life member of Newburg Volunteer Fire Company and past member of Veterans Foreign Wars on 13th Avenue. He enjoyed golf, chess and playing cards with relatives. He was also a flea market vendor — buying and selling items.
Gary is survived by two siblings, Cynthia R. Doyle of Altoona and Kenneth F. Doyle of Geeseytown/Hollidaysburg. He is also survived by several nephews, great-nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger P. Doyle, on Dec. 28, 2020; and a sister-in-law, Donna Doyle. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Monsignor Stanley B. Carson, celebrant. Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2021, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be celebrated during the visitation. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Geeseytown Fire Hall after the committal at Calvary Cemetery.
