Debra Kay Cole, CPA, MAS, 54, of Rockford, died Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. She was born August 12, 1966 in Rockford, the daughter of Robert Lee and Shirley Ann (Kloster) Cole. Debra graduated salutatorian from Durand High School in 1984. She graduated from Rockford University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting to then sit and pass her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam in 1988. She earned a Master of Accountancy (MAS) with a specialization in Tax Accounting from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
Debra began work as a certified public accountant for the accounting firms of BDO Seidman in Rockford and Speckman & Associates in Belvidere. On September 1, 2020 she purchased Speckman & Associates to become DK Cole & Associates, CPAs LLC in Belvidere, a full service public accounting firm providing personal and professional bookkeeping, accounting, tax preparation and planning services. She was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Illinois CPA Society (ILCPA) and treasurer for the Belvidere Noon Rotary Club. Debra was an avid mystery book reader and book collector.
Debra is survived by her mother, Shirley Cole of Davis; brother, Dan (Andrea Hazzard) Cole of Pecatonica; sister, Denise (Shawn) Untersee of Davis; nephews, Codie Smith, Austin Untersee; nieces, Savannah Untersee, Amanda Cole; cousins, Ellen Allen, Jonah Allen.
Debra is predeceased by her father Robert Cole.
Memorial visitation was held Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. Cremation rites accorded with interment at Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery near Pecatonica. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established
