Don Kircher Allen was born in Hannibal, Missouri on August 30, 1936 to A. Nelson and Katherine L. (Andel) Allen. He grew up in Columbia, Tennessee, where he played both football and baseball. His love of all things musical lead to the "Don Allen's Quintet" while he was busy earning his BA at UCLA. He met the love of his life, Patricia Anstey during his training with the Air Force, and they were married December 18, 1959 in Tustin, CA. He loved his 28 years as a B-52 driver, in which he earned numerous awards, some of which were the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. He did two tours to Viet Nam, one in the Philippines, worked in Quality Control and with the B-52 simulators. After his retirement from the Air Force, he moved on to work with Boeing where his talents and expertise were critical in developing the simulator for the B-1 bomber.

Eventually Don returned home to Merced, CA where he used his love of woodworking to teach at Merced College.

He and Pat enjoyed the opportunities to travel but most of all they cherished their time surrounded by family and friends. He spent his last years connecting with old friends and enjoying pizza and dominoes with his loved ones.

After being married for 62 years, Don and Pat passed away just 5 days apart, he on March 25th and she on the 30th of this year.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Mark Allen and is survived by his daughter Barbara Malta, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held grave-side on this Friday, June 11th, at 10:00am at Merced Cemetery, 1300 B Street, in the "Garden of Angels" with a reception to follow at 59 El Portal, Merced.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to Don's favorite charity, the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
