Actor. He was best known to film viewers as the father of his real-life daughter Blake Lively's character in the two "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" films. He was an English professor and served as a lieutenant in Vietnam, returning as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, before he became an actor. His start in the acting world came in 1975 in an episode of the television series "The Waltons." He would go on to appear in such series as "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Hill Street Blues," "Falcon Crest," "Newhart," "Murder, She Wrote," "The West Wing," and "Saving Grace." In 1980, he made his "big screen" debut in the film "It's My Turn." Besides the two "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" films, his later film credits would include such titles as "Secret Admirer," (1985) "Ghost Chase," (1987) "Turner & Hooch," (1989) "Passenger 57," (1992) "The Beverly Hillbillies," (1993) and "American Pie 2." (2001) His two sons, Jason and Eric, and two daughters, Blake and Robyn Lively followed their father into the acting business.
