She was born August 19, 1948, in Rowan County, and was a daughter of the late Robert Sherwood McKenzie and Clara Nell Johnson McKenzie.
Kay was preceded in death on May 9, 2021, by her loving husband of 54 years, Justin D. Phillips.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Justina "Tina" Logan and her husband Kent of Morehead; five grandchildren, Jesse Clark, Nick Logan, Colton Logan, Kaden Logan, and Billy Logan and his wife Anna; and two great grandchildren, Nora Conn and Kamden Logan.
Other survivors six brothers, Gary (Nisi) McKenzie, Robert (Rita) McKenzie, Dennis (Cheryl) McKenzie, all of Olympia, Mark (Branita) McKenzie of Owingsville, Marty McKenize and Greg McKenzie, both of Salt Lick; two sisters, Cindy (Randy) Cline of Owingsville and Joan (Steve) Becraft of Olympia; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles and other extended family.
Kay earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Morehead State University and retired from Pathways of Morehead after more than 20 years of employment. Kay and Justin also owned and operated K's Furniture for a number of years. She was an avid U.K. basketball fan and enjoyed spending time with her entire family. She was a dedicated and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who cherished her loved ones. Kay will be greatly missed and remembered with love.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Andy Lands and Pastor Greg Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Kent Logan, Jesse Clark, Nick Logan, Scott McKenzie, Jason McKenzie, and Derek Cline.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
