U.S. Navy Veteran Was Longtime Computer Programmer And Accomplished Bluegrass Fiddler
George Marion Morgan died peacefully with his family in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 5, 2021, at the age of 83.

Marion is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughter, Lara and brother, Tom and was preceded in death by his father, Spurgeon, mother, Althea and brothers, Ross and Arlen.

Marion was born on April 24, 1938, in Pikeville, Tn. He married Nancy, the love of his life, on May 31, 1980. They spent their life together in Chattanooga where they welcomed their child into the world. Marion was a loving husband and father and set about guiding his family to live ethically and honestly. He encouraged those he loved to pursue their passions and made certain that they had the opportunity to do so.

A self-taught computer programmer and a meticulous man, he worked at IBM and for Hamilton County where he retired in January of 2017. He was commended in his field and was recognized for creating a tracking system used by The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office in 2011.

Marion loved music and was an accomplished Bluegrass Fiddler, he often plucked strings with his family and friends. Despite growing up in temperate Tennessee he played ice hockey and loved the sport. He was a compassionate individual who loved his faith and adored animals. As a Freemason of The Scottish Rite he was wholeheartedly committed to helping those around him.

A veteran, Marion served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1956-1960. He wore his pride for his country on his chest for everyone to see.

Marion was a good man with deep love for his family. He lived purposefully and is greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on June 11, at the First-Centenary United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Gooden officiating. Interment will follow the service at Morgan Springs Cemetery, in Dayton. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marion's life.

For those unable to attend, a visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel. Additionally a livestream of the service will be available at https://firstcentenary.com/the-sanctuary-livestream
