Peggy Joanna Gay Barrett, age 77, married 40 years to the late Ray Barrett, passed away Monday June 7, 2021, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. Peggy was born August 3, 1943, in Berea, KY to the late Raymond Bunk and Bessie Davis Gay. She was retired from Gibson Greetings after 43 years of faithful and dependable service. Peggy was a great storyteller all her friends and family loved to hear her stories. Her home was home to many not just her family but anyone that needed it. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with family, she never served in the military but taught her grandchildren to make a bed you could bounce a quarter off. She loved working in her flower garden, music and singing. Peggy was a member of the Blue Lick Baptist Church.
Other than her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one son, Chucky Barrett, one brother, Monty Gay, and one sister, Connie Combs.
Peggy is survived by her children, Mitch Barrett, and Autumn Barrett both of Berea, KY, one brother, Benny Gay and one sister Judy Thomas and her husband Donnie all of Berea, KY, six grandchildren, Joshua Ray Barrett, Bethany Sykes Barrett, Zoey Raven Barrett, Maizie Manna Barrett, River Ray Youngblood Barrett, Alder Stone Youngblood Barrett, and Kelsey Green. Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 11, 2021, at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Kent Gilbert officiating, burial will follow in the Pilot Knob Cemetery, pallbearer will be, Steve Combs, Brian Thomas, Eddie Thomas, Joshua Barrett, Rodney Collins, and Matt Dallam. Honorary pallbearers are, Greer Hubbard, and Craig Thompson.
