He was a 1968 graduate of McDuffie High School. He served for 27 years in the SC National Guard and retired as a Staff Sergeant. Tommy cheerfully worked his whole life in auto parts retail. He always went the extra mile to get to know his customers. He was also a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his caring wife of 50 years, Theresa Patterson Carlton, daughters Kathy Carlton and Renea Gillespie, grandchildren Halie Coons and Michael Gillespie, and son-in-law James Gillespie.
Visitation will take place at 10 am on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Sosebee Mortuary South Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 11:30. His burial will take place at MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery at 1 pm after the service.
