Donald Parsons, 86 of Norwalk, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 29, 2021 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

He was born on July 21, 1934 to Merle and Maye Parsons in Bedford, Iowa.

He lived in Bedford before moving with his family to New Market, Iowa in 1948 where his parents ran the General Store and he completed High School.

He served in the US Air Force from 1955 to 1958, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He served at Fairchild Air Force base in Spokane, Washington and in Guam.

He married Norma Sue Elswick of Lamoni, Iowa in October, 1960 and they had two children; Donald Lee Parsons (Gina) of St. Peters, Mo., and the late Donna Sue Parsons of Iowa City, Iowa.

He worked for Braniff Airlines in Omaha, Neb., was an independent insurance agent in New Market, Iowa, and later an Underwriter for Hawkeye-Security Insurance Co. in Des Moines, retiring from Continental Western Insurance in Des Moines.

Don was an avid reader and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, history, and genealogy. He was a Certified Flight Instructor and restored a Piper Super Cruiser.

He is survived by a brother, Richard Parsons of New Market, Iowa; son Donald Lee (Gina), and two grandchildren, Skyler, and Lindsay, all of St. Peters, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma Sue Parsons, and daughter Donna Sue Parsons.

Graveside services will take place in the summer at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
