The son of Herman and Margaret (nee Benson) Evans. He spoke often of his close knit family growing up and how much he loved his parents and younger sister, the late Patricia (nee Evans) Nichols. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War and a tech instructor during his second tour of duty. He was very proud of the time he served his country and cherished the memories, especially the time spent stationed in Iceland.
He married the love of his life, Patricia (nee Torode) and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. He loved his job as a controls engineer. He owned his own business for sometime and traveled extensively for work, including Germany and Switzerland. He embraced retirement with great passion. He was renowned for his love and dedication for the Highland community. In addition, he dedicated countless hours of volunteering at the Highland Activity Center.
He was the proud recipient of a proclamation from Oakland County for service to the county and community. He was extremely passionate about photography. He created a Facebook page, Al's Shoebox, where he shared his creative efforts with friends, family and community. He was equally passionate about genealogy, cooking and gardening. He enjoyed music, spending time with friends and family. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children, Deborah Fenbert, Laurie (Joseph) O'Callaghan and the late Alan (Theresa) Evans, Jr.; grand children, Mark, Krystal, Tammy, Nicholas, Haley, Madeline, Morgan and Jacob and great grandchildren, Brooke and Lucas. He also had a son from his first marriage, James Evans and his two children Juliana and Joseph and a great granddaughter Teigan. He was selfless, kind and caring and will be greatly missed by friends, family and community.
This spring/summer there will be a graveside cemetery service at Highland Cemetery and a luncheon at the Highland Activity Center.
