Betty Sue Roberts Moore was born on July 5, 1928 in Haddock, Jones County, Georgia to Nathan Dearing Roberts and Mary Sue Moore Roberts. She was always called Sue and never called Betty. She and her two sisters, Natalie Roberts Saltsgaver and Sallye Roberts Salter, grew up in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. Sue attended North Georgia College (now part of the University of North Georgia), where she met her future husband, and graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville, Baldwin County.

About 1956 Sue Roberts married Whiteford Smith "Junior" Moore, Jr., and they became the parents of Lynda Susan Moore Combs. Around 1959 the family lived in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia, but for the most part the family lived in LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia. Sue and Junior were widely thought to be two of the world's most attractive people. For years Sue worked for the Troup County Department of Family and Children's Services and also worked in real estate. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of LaGrange.

Sue passed away at age 67 on December 23, 1995 in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia. Her funeral was in LaGrange, and she is buried in High View Cemetery in Jones County near her husband and parents.
