"Donald William Carroll, 83, of Hayesville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Don was born on December 14, 1937, in Riviera Beach, Florida to the late Flora and Sinclair Carroll. At the age of 19, Don married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Smith Carroll.

In 1960, the Carrolls moved from Florida to Dallas, Texas where they raised daughter, Cindy and son, Todd. Don graduated with a Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University, while simultaneously establishing a highly successful career as a registered representative with National Life of Vermont.

He earned several accolades throughout his career including Chartered Life Underwriter, C.L.U., Million Dollar Round Table, and perennial member of the President's Club. Don also held several leadership positions within the community, including Director of the Jaycees and President of the Dallas Chapter of the American Society of Chartered Life Underwriters.

Don retired at an early age to realize his dream of moving to the mountains. Don and Gayle have lived in their home in Hayesville for the past 12 years and have been active members of Truett Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Don was preceded in death by his brother, Wade Carroll. He is survived by his sweet wife of 64 years, Gayle Smith Carroll, whom he truly loved and adored; daughter, Cindy Carroll York and husband, Steve; son Todd Carroll and wife, Sandy; four grandchildren, Ryan York and wife, Catherine; Jennifer Crunk and husband, Wesley; Blake Carroll and wife, Kirsty; and Lauren Borkovich and husband, Braeden; ten great-grandchildren: Lila, Cason, Hunter, Piper, Beau, Eleanor, Fleur, Chloe, Lochlan, and Tucker; and four brothers and sisters, Jimmy, Cyrese, Gail, and Mitchell.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 14th, 2021 at Truett Baptist Church in Hayesville.
