Christopher Michael Carpenter, 34, of Staunton, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021 at his residence.

Many knew Christopher only through the lens of mental illness and the addictions he battled for years, but the chains that bound him were stronger. His fight is now over and may he Rest in Peace.

That wasn't the real Chris though, and those fortunate enough to truly know him immediately recognized him as one who would give the clothes he was wearing to help family, friends and many times someone in need. Ones he considered his close friends to be like brothers and sisters, which he often called them. He was smart, funny and creative. He was fiercely loyal to his family, friends and his extended family. He was loved by many.

He is survived by his 7 year old son Damon Carpenter, his parents Jody and Rebekah Carpenter, Frederick and Sandra Farnum, his siblings Danny and Ruthie Carpenter, Richard Carpenter, James and Lacey Carpenter, Brandon Farnum, Alexander and Sage Faulkner, Cameron and Taylor Fulk, Jenna Faulkner as well as his grandmother, Waltraud Perry and grandfather Leo and Jeannie Carpenter. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his best friend Kyle Deflores. The memory of his bright smile, quick wit, argumentative need to be right, but most of all his kindness will never be forgotten. Our broken hearts will forever feel the loss and emptiness of his absence.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, Staunton.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend William "Bill" Trice.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to his son's college fund would be greatly appreciated. https://gofund.me/23af30e6
