Addie Jenkins was born 1871 in Martin County, NC, the eldest of 3 known surviving children (all girls) born to farmer McGilbra "Mack" Gilbert Jenkins and Mary Frances Ward. She grew up in Bethel, Pitt Co, NC.

In 1891, at age 20, she met and married 22-year old Jewish immigrant Julius Rosenbaum, an Austrian-German who had arrived in America in 1885 and opened a dry good store in Tarboro, NC. Addie converted to Judiasm upon marriage to Julius Rosenbaum; reportedly adopting the Hebrew name of "Sarah", although census records consistently show her as Addie. Both she and her husband were members of B'Nai Israel Synagogue in Tarboro.

The couple had four children:

* Carl David Rosenbam(1892-1946)
* Aldene Rosenbaum (1896-1970)
* Lilla Dale Rosenbaum (1899-1983)
* Eleanor Barnhill Rosenbaum (1910-1994)

About 1908, the couple built a Victorian style home on Park Avenue, Tarboro, overlooking the Town Commons, where they raised their children. This historic home still stands today (ca. 2008), although it bears the brickface facade added sometime in the mid-to-late 20th Century.

Addie was left a widow in 1931, when her husband of 40 years passed at age 62. Addie never remarried and passed 11 years later in 1942, at age 71.

Addie's younger sister Mittie Laverna Jenkins (1876-1936) married Thomas Long and removed to California, where she died. Sister, Mary "Lena" Jenkins (1879-1967) married and divorced Frank Mehegan Carlisle.
