John "Gilbert" Gonzales, 86, returned to his heavenly home on May 31, 2021 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Gilbert was born to the late Magdeleno and Laura Constiano Gonzales, in Temple, TX on July 14,1935. He was immersed in the Catholic Church that would be his lifelong support from an early age. He was an Usher at Holy Spirit. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1968, and served in the U.S. Army and National Guard.

Gilbert was blessed with a benevolent and loving family. He married his best friend Margarita Garcez, on June 14, 1969, in Duncanville, TX. Gilbert helped raise his daughters one biological daughter and stepdaughter with patience, discipline and humility. He taught them to read, write and solve complex equations, and often took them on long family trips to see the natural beauty of the USA and Mexico. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the world and the love of music.

Gilbert was a musician at heart. He was also kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate that he is at peace with his creator.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Margarita; his daughters, Anita Gonzales Felton and Margie Manes; grandchildren, Isabel, Elena and several step-grandchildren; loving sister, Mary Frances Huron; nephews, James Huron and Carlos Gonzales; nieces, Driana Gonzales Galvan and Loretta Huron. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roberto Gonzales and his parents.

Visitation with the family is 5 pm – 7 pm, Monday, June 7, 2021 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel.
