Born in Bacon County, GA, he was the son of the late JC Barnes and Lucille Wells Barnes. Mr. Barnes served in the US Army from 1957-1960 and was stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he went on to work and retire for Lance Snack Company, was a sales manager for Golden Flake and was a district manager for Liberty National Life Insurance Company in the Sumter, Columbia, and Savannah markets. In addition, he drove a school bus for the Sumter County Schools and delivered The Sumter Item Newspaper. Mr. Barnes enjoyed singing and was the lead singer for the Harmony Quartet. He was a member of Bethesda Church of God and former member of Carpenter Road Church of God in Tifton, GA where he served as the choir director.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Claudius Barnes.
