Jo Ann (Shott) Newman
Jo Ann Newman, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 17, 2021 following an extended illness.
She was born October 27, 1935 in Muncie, IN to Irvin and Katherine Jones, both deceased.
Jo Ann graduated from Cowan High School in 1954, and attended Ball State University earning both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. She taught school at both Albany Elementary and Royerton Elementary as Mrs. Shott. She transferred to North Del Middle School when it opened in Eaton and taught math as Mrs. Wright. In the late 70s, Jo Ann changed careers, working in the Personnel Department at Chevrolet until her retirement in 1988.
Jo Ann was a devoted daughter and spent her time between Florida and Indiana so she could visit with her brother and mother. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren playing games, attending theme parks, school activities and traveling. Her favorite way to travel was cruising and once she went on her first cruise, she was hooked! She cruised at least once a year, several years with her church family from Horizon Church and was always planning her next cruise.
Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Ron Jones and his wife Judy, Muncie, Indiana: daughters Vicki Peters and her husband Bill, Columbia, Tennessee, Sandi Webster, Clermont, Florida; son, Doug Shott and his wife Lynette, La Follette, Tennessee; grandchildren, Katie (Peters) Puhr and her husband, Ryan, Thompson's Station, Tennessee, Robbie Peters, New York, New York, Tina Webster, Clermont, Florida, Drew Shott, Ponce Inlet, Florida, Aaron Shott and his wife Victoria, Clinton, Tennessee; great grandchildren, Micah Puhr and Jamie Puhr.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which Jo Ann supported for many years.
