South Lyon - Daniel Kobylarz-Hughes, age 87 of South Lyon, MI passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans after a brief illness.

Born in Hamtramck, MI, he moved to Queensbury, NY after retiring from Ford Motor Company, Sales Operations-Human Resources, Detroit, MI in 1993. He was the son of Robert J. Hughes and Katherine Kobylarz, who pre-deceased him in 1958 and 1978 respectively.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean service veteran. He was an active member of St. Mary's and St. Alphonsus Churches in Glens Falls, NY and had been involved in various ministries in those churches. Locally, he was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Brighton, MI. He was a member of the Glens Falls Country Club; the Elks Club, and the Korean War Veterans Association in Glens Falls. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in NY and Lincoln Park, MI, and of Disabled American Vets and of the Association of Hebrew Catholics. He earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Detroit and Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.

He was an avid golfer in his younger days. He loved to read and enjoyed all kinds of music, especially bluegrass. He had a beautiful voice and once sang in a church choir. He enjoyed watching golf, baseball and football on TV. He was very generous and made many donations to various beloved charities.

His wife, Eleanor (Chudzik) Tallon Kobylarz, pre-deceased him in September [21] 2005. Surviving are his children from his first marriage to Lorraine Zakowski: Roseanne Boley of Farmington Hills, MI, David Kobylarz (Hisako) of Spring, TX, Karen Holman (Steve) of South Lyon, MI, Paul Kobylarz (Jennifer) of Westfield, IN and Michael Kobylarz of Dearborn, MI. He has 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Surviving also are Eleanor's children: Christopher Tallon (Tina) of Georgetown, KY, Greg Tallon (Diana) of Queensbury, NY, and Maureen Tallon (Ken Knoblock) and granddaughter of North Grafton, MA.

A funeral Mass will be held on July 22, 2021 at 1:00 at the Grand Rapids Veterans Home Cemetery grotto at 3000 Monroe Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI. The Rosary will begin at 12:30. The graveside burial will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cappuchin Soup Kitchen at www.cskdetroit.org would be appreciated.
