Harold D. (Red) Campbell passed away May 30, 2021 at Ball Pavilion surrounded by family. Red was born in LeBoeuf Township November 29, 1929, the eighth of nine children of Chan and Florence Campbell. After graduation from high school, he went to work until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1950. Red proudly served aboard the USS Lake Champlain aircraft carrier and was a veteran of the Korean War.
In July of 1951, he married Patricia Ann Brown and was happily married for 65 years. Red and Pat were blessed with two children, Connie Ackerman and James Campbell.
Red worked in the plumbing, heating and mechanical construction industry throughout his career. Through hard work and dedication, he was able to progress from a house plumber, into sales, estimating and project management. Red fulfilled his dream to eventually own United Atkinson, a successful mechanical construction company. His honesty, integrity and determination were the driving principles of his business and his life.
Red was active in the small community of Mill Village. He was a Little League coach, volunteer fire fighter and active in his church. Red was an example to all who knew him.
Red was preceded in death by his parents, Chan and Florence, brothers Willard and Lester, sisters Charlotte, Vesta, Ellen, Audrey and Lois. He is survived by his sister Dolores Dowler, daughter Connie Ackerman and husband Will, son Jim Campbell and his wife Carol, granddaughter Taylor Campbell, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Red lived life with a passion, faith and energy that passed on to all he met. He was a loving husband and father, mentor and friend and will be greatly missed. More importantly, the legacy he leaves was how he showed us to treat each other with honesty, respect and love.
Calling hours will be Sunday, June 6 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Monday, June 7 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 8th at 11:00 am at the funeral home followed by interment at Mill Village Cemetery with full military honors.
