Thomas Anthony Dixon "Tom", 70 passed away Monday May 31, 2021 in Louisville.
Tom was always an avid sports lover and one heck of an athlete. He started his journey in his own sports career at an early age with Pee Wee Football, youth basketball, and little league baseball. Tommy made the 1963 Cynthiana All Stars Team, where he and his fellow baseball teammates went on to be Runner- up in the State tournament. In 1964 Tommy competed in the Ford Motor Company's National Punt Pass & Kick Competition, becoming the first Cynthiana boy to ever become one of the 37 District Champions. This lead to national recognition for himself and his hometown of Cynthiana, KY. Tom went on to the National PP&K Finals held in Cleveland, OH taking the National Punt, Pass, and Kick Runner Up title. For the next several years Tommy went on playing sports at Harrison County High School excelling in Football and Baseball, setting records. He received recruiting letters from all over the country but chose the University of Kentucky. In Cynthiana he was known as the sports "Legend" and many stories of Tommy Dixon aka the Legend have been told & shared over the years. He was honored when he was inducted in The Harrison County Football Alumni Association Hall of Fame in 2003.
Tom went on to have a successful career in the food industry for 45 years of his life. Starting, his Food Management Career back in the days of Burger Queen in Cynthiana, he moved to Williamstown to partner in a Druthers Restaurant, later moving his family to Western KY to Calvert City where he became the area supervisor for Druthers Corp and then it changed to Dairy Queen. In 1993, Tom and his family moved to Shelbyville where he, his wife and daughters owned and operated the local Dairy Queen for 25 years. Tom and his wife decided to retire and sold in 2017. He spent the days of his retirement looking after his grandkids, at "Poppop's Daycare".
He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Margaret Dixon. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bernice Dixon of Shelbyville, his 3 daughters Dawn Renae Dixon (Chris Cook), Desiree Stucker (Jerry), Danielle Dixon. His 3 grandchildren, Brady Stucker, Bella Stucker, and Channing Cook, all of Shelbyville, KY; his bonus great grandson, Kayson Hill, his sisters, Donna A Paulson of Huntsville, AL; Mollie Dixon of Lexington, KY; his godson / nephew, Matthew Paulson of Mobile, AL and many other nieces and nephews and one beloved dog Axel.
Visitation (Shelbyville) will be 2:00pm-8:00pm on Sunday June 6, 2021 at Shannon Funeral Home Shelbyville, KY.
Visitation (Cynthiana) will be held on Monday June 7, 2021, from 10:00-11:45 am at St. Edward Catholic Church Cynthiana, KY with Funeral mass to follow at noon; burial will be Battle Grove Cemetery.
