Brenda Marie Hayes, loving known as "Shug," was born on May 11, 1961, to Herman Weatherspoon and Willie Beatrice Hayes.

Brenda attended Marlin Public Schools and graduated in 1979. She worked at Dairy Queen in Marlin in her early years and then went to Wolf Manufacturing, also in Marlin, until it closed. Brenda then worked for H&R Block as a tax preparer until her health started to decline.
Brenda joined Elm Grove Baptist Church at a early age under the pastorate of Rev. Raymond Alexander, then Rev. Daniel Ward, and now Dr. R. C. Thomas. Brenda was a faithful member until her health started to decline and God called her home.
Brenda's older nephews loved to tease her about her Dallas Cowboys...just to see the look she gave them. They would just laugh. And you better not call her on the phone when the Cowboys were playing because she would have some words for you. Those are the memories that we will cherish and that will forever be in our hearts for a lifetime...especially during football season.

Preceding her in death her parents Willie B. Hayes and Herman Weatherspoon; three children; four brothers, James Hayes, Sr., Gerald Weatherspoon, Hulen Brown, Jr., and another brother who passed at birth; and a sister, Barbara.

Brenda leaves behind two loving children, Kimberly Lashawn Hayes and Brandon Janard Hayes (Ja'leesa); four sisters, Jackie Jackson, Patricia Jackson and Wanda Johnson (Heath), all of Marlin, and Carolyn Weatherspoon-Smith (Freddie) of Bryan/College Station; two brothers, Alford Hayes (Tasha) of Marlin and Robert Hayes (Trina) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren, Kendra Erniece Hayes, Kendravon Janard Hayes, Jeremiah Burkes Petry, and Jaylon Keshaun Hayes; aunts, Gertie Mae Allen (Cousin) and Angie Lang (known as "Sista"); uncle, George Weatherspoon; special sister-in-law, Shirley Hayes; special niece, Alaya Johnson (Sha), who worked and helped take care of her until her death; special cousins, Shirley Brown-Hopson, Alice Brown–Jackson (known as "Bae"), and Larry Hayes; special friends, Anna Givens, Eartha Stance-Freeman, Naomi Lang, Katherine Johnson (Koot), Susan Petry, and Patricia Washington; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
