Larry was born September 28, 1945 to the late G. Noble & Virginia (Fite) Higgins. He retired from South Madison Community Schools as a bus driver for 37 years. He also retired from the City of Anderson after serving over 30 years. He was currently employed by the City of Anderson as a Security Guard for the Utility Office. Larry served on the Madison County Council for four years and attended Huntsville Good Shepherd Community Church.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mary (Crouch) Higgins; sons, Aaron Higgins & Scott (wife, Stacie) Higgins, all of Anderson; step-children, Chris (wife, Mandy) Gibson of Germantown, OH, Carrie Gibson of Anderson, & Jessica (husband, Jeff) Bartel of Markleville; grandchildren, Josh Higgins, Jourdan Higgins, Richie (wife, Shaylie) Haley, Logan Haley, Scotty Higgins, Devan (husband, Landon) Harris, Aubrey Higgins, Caden Gibson, PJ Corsoro, Connor Higgins, Aidan Bartel, Ryan Corsoro, Bryson Gibson; great grandchildren, Cartter Beane, Adalyn Beane, Kinsley & Adalynn Haley; special friends, Ron & Brenda Kinsey; and several other friends and family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cathy (Brukhardt) Higgins; and son, Jamey Higgins.
Larry founded PAID (People Against Impaired Driving) following the death of his youngest son, Jamey. He would speak at schools, court ordered victim impact panels, and numerous fairs & festivals. His mission was to educate people on the impact of driving when impaired from drinking or drugs.
Services will be at 7 pm Friday, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Rev. Dr. Amber Karkowski-Litten & Pastor Claude Creel officiating.
Visitation will be from 1-4pm & 5-8pm Thursday and from 4pm Friday until the time of services at the funeral home.
