Bucyrus - Susan Bennett, 75, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Monday, May 31, 2021 at Marion General Hospital following recent health issues.

She was born June 22, 1945 to the late James E. and Martha J. (Swihart) Leitzy. Susan was a 1963 graduate of Mt. Zion High School where she was a cheerleader, member of the band and active in 4-H. She went onto complete her phlebotomy training at Carnegie College and worked at the Smith Clinic in Marion until beginning a family. As well as being a homemaker, Susan worked at Food Town as a cashier for many years before she retired around 2000.

Susan's life was family driven. Whether a brief "meet up" for tea or coffee, shopping, holiday get togethers or birthdays, she simply enjoyed seeing everyone's smiling faces and loved hearing how they were doing. She bought the best (and probably the most) gifts for her loved ones and whenever there was a birthday to celebrate, she was certain to prepare their favorite meal. She also enjoyed memories created through their many trips to both Lakeside and Santa Rosa Beach.

Susan was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church; Red Hat Society and volunteered for CONTACT Crawford County. She enjoyed time spent shopping, dining out and knitting with friends and could often be found working in her flower beds.

Susan is survived by Mike Bennett, her husband of 43 years; children, J.D. (Kari) Hord, their two children, Jacob and Evan; Beth (Mike) Hoffman, their two children, Taylor and Seth; Michele (Jim) Dusseau, their two children, Eli and Evan; and Michael (Laura) Bennett, their son, Andrew as well as many extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Leitzy.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 3 at Wise Funeral Service. Her funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Fahrbach officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Donations can be made payable to either Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Ohio Health Hospice and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home.
