WEST HAMLIN - Woodie Ray Byrd, 85, of West Hamlin died May 28, 1999, at home.

He was a member of Union Freewill Baptist Church, Griffithsville, a former laborer with the state Department of Highways and an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving: wife, Edith Marie Byrd; daughters, Maxine M. Ross of West Hamlin, Jean Stowers of Griffithsville; foster daughter, Glenna Beckelheimer of Branchland; brother, William of Yawkey; sisters, Cynthia Spears of Garden City, Mich., Lucy Roberts of Alkol, Rosie Vickers of Sumerco, Elsia Lucas of Danese, Bessie Cyrus of Joe Creek; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three foster grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin, with the Rev. Russell Adkins and the Rev. Kenneth Bell officiating. Burial will be in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
