Death came with startling suddenness at 9 o'clock last night in Pittston Hospital to Miss Mary T. Burns, of 17 Elizabeth street, shortly after she was admitted to the institution. Shortly after partaking of her supper last evening she complained of feeling ill. She walked to the office of Dr. Bennett J. McGuire in the Kehoe Building where the physician noted the seriousness of her condition and directed her immediate removal to Pittston Hospital. Miss Burns was one of Pittston's most highly respected women. She served as secretary to the late Mayor P. R. Brown during his four-year tenure as chief executive of Pittston, 1902-25 inclusive. Born in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget Tigue Burns and was a member of an old family in the Oregon section of this city. She was a graduate of St. John's High School and a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and the Blessed Virgin Soadlity. . Surviving are two sisters, Sister Mary Ursula, IHM .Sacred Heart Convent, Jermyn, and Elizabeth, with whom she made her home; a brother, Frank P. Burns, Pittston, a mine foreman for the Pennsylvania Coal Company; also three nephews and one niece. The funeral will be from the Stanley M. Leonard Funeral Home, 67 William street, at 9 o'clock on Saturday morning. There will be a solemn requiem mass at 9:30 o'clock in St John the Evangelist R. C. Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
