Elvie Myrtle Alkerton was born in Augusta Township, County Leeds and Grenville, Ontario. Her parents were Benjamin Alkerton (1836-1914) and Mary Eliza (Elizabeth) Lindsay (1850-1925) a farming family. She had one sister and two brothers. Myrtle married Charles G. Umbenhower in Monroe, New York on February 23, 1928, and they lived in Rochester, New York, U.S.A. She passed away in 1956 and was returned to Canada to Maynard Cemetery where she rests in the family gravesite.
