After an 18 Jul 2022 telephone conversation with staff at St-Joseph's Cemetery, West Warwick, Rhode Island it was learned that both William Blanchard and his daughter Melina Blanchard Proulx were buried there in 1901, on 23 February and 18 July, respectively. -
Melina and her family arrived in the United States after the 1865 birth of her youngest sibling Mary Blanchard. Melina's 1870 census record at Killingly, Connecticut when she at age 13 indicates Melina, her father and four other siblings, as young as 10 years old, were employed in a cotton mill.
22 years later, in the 1900 census, Melina and her husband John are living in Warwick, Rhode Island with 9 Rhode Island born children age 21 to 8 years. The 1900 census record also indicates 2 additional children were not at home with the family and that one child had not survived.
Most records indicate both parents were born in Quebec. The earliest know record for Melina'a family, the 1850 church marriage record, shows only the residences at the time of Melina's parents marriage at Thompson, Connecticut. Her father was from North Providence, Rhode Island, her mother was living at Thompson.
20 years later, in 1870, Melina had 10 siblings and the family was living in Killingly, CT in the same county as Thompson. By 1880, the 5 oldest children had left home, leaving the five youngest surviving children at home with their parents in Providence, RI. Melina had been married in 1878 to John B. Proulx.
Melina married John Proulx at Warwich, RI. They had a family of 12. Children, 11 were living in 1900.
In 1910, John Proulx was a widower and remarried 4 years later with widow Mina Fornier at Warwick, R.I.
Melina's Rhode Island death record has not been discovered.
