German name:
Joachim Friedrich of Hohenzollern, Elector of Brandenburg, Regent of Prussia (since 1605)

Johann Georg of Brandenburg (1525-1598)
Sophie of Legnica (Liegnitz)

Joachim Friedrich of Brandenburg, of the Hohenzollern dynasty succeeded his father Johann George as margrave and elector of Brandenburg in 1598, and was in turn succeeded at his death by his son John Sigismund. From 1566 to 1598 he was administrator of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg.

His first marriage in 1570 was to Catherine, Princess of Brandenburg-Küstrin (1549–1602), daughter of John I, Margrave of Brandenburg-Küstrin, and Catherine, Duchess of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel.

Joachim Frederick's second marriage, in 1603, was to Eleonore of Hohenzollern (1583–1607), daughter of Albert Frederick, Duke of Prussia and Mary Eleonore of Cleves. He became regent of the Duchy of Prussia in 1605, because Albert Frederick was becoming increasingly ill.

Both of Johann Georg's wifes and some of his children are buried in the crypt underneath the Berlin Cathedral.
