Franklin Joseph Smith, 88, of Kenmare/Mouse River Park, ND passed away May 26, 2021 at Sanford Hospital, Bismarck, ND.
Franklin, known as "Smitty" or "Jake" by many, was born in Kenmare to Walter & Frances Martha (Prodraza) Smith on November 27, 1932.
He attended St. Agnes Catholic School and at the age of 15, he started working for Carl Ringen in the plumbing business.
On October 19, 1959, he married Pamela "Pam" Schmidt, and they made their home and raised their family in Kenmare where he owned and operated Smitty's Plumbing and Heating up until his retirement in 2015. In 2019, he moved to Bismarck and was currently residing at Edgewood Vista Dominion, in Memory Care.
Jake was known to have a quick wit and keen sense of humor. He was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Kenmare, a member of the dive and snowmobile clubs, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, cooking,
golfing, bowling, dancing, and cards. Many stories were shared around the campfires at their beloved cabin in Mouse River Park.
Jake's greatest treasures were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He loved each of them and enjoyed watching them all grow throughout the years.
Franklin is survived by: his children, Franklin J. Smith Jr. (Annette) Bismarck, Roxanne R. McLean (John) Hannah, ND, Steven P. Smith, Kenmare, and Vincent R. (Rachelle) Smith, Menoken, ND; siblings, Agnes Kays, Donna Helde, Lawrence (Dick) and Joseph Smith; grandchildren, Isaac (Elysa), Alex, and Cyrus Smith, Eric and Ryan Felch, Kiah (Bryan Jacklitch), Briana (Grady) Halverson, Jordan and Sierra Smith, Julie Korolsky, Cayden (Kelsey) and Mckenna Smith; and great-grandchildren, Preston and Corinne Smith, Kyrie Jacklitch.
