Robert Leroy Dennis, age 96, passed away peacefully in West Jordan, Utah on Memorial Day, Monday May 31, 2021, having been surrounded by his loving family. Robert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Robert was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 5. 1925 to James William Dennis and Luycime Kathryn English Dennis.

Robert served valiantly in WWII, enlisting at the young age of 17. Although young, he was eager to serve his country and spent 3 years as a member of the United States Navy Seabees (Construction Battalion). He trained in North Fork, Virginia and later served in California, Hawaii, Saipan, Guam and Tinian. He served in the Reserves for an additional 17 years after his service in WWII.

His service in the Navy was one of his greatest highlights and accomplishments in his life. Robert was an incredible advocate for Veterans and spent years donating to the Wounded Warriors Project. He participated in the Honor Flight Program with the support of the Salt Lake Veterans Hospital. His love of his country and Veterans made his passing on Memorial Day very fitting.

Robert married his sweetheart Georgia Elaine Evans on October 19, 1947, and they were later sealed together as a family in the Salt Lake Temple on February 12, 1960. He missed his wife every day since her passing on January 2, 2000. Together Robert and his wife Elaine had 6 children, 26 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. He was very proud of his family and was known to show visitors pictures of his posterity and talk endlessly about their accomplishments. He loved his family deeply and found his greatest joy from their visits.

Robert worked hard throughout his life, holding several jobs to provide for his family. He was employed by The American Foundry Machine Company as a core maker for many years and in janitorial work. After his retirement, he spent his time serving in his community and church. He was an active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. For 25 years he served as Branch leader of a Salt Lake nursing home. He will be remembered for his work ethic and love of serving others, his love of the gospel and love for his family.

A special thanks to Bristol Hospice and Beehive Homes of West Jordan for their care of Robert.

Robert is survived by his five sons R.D. (Holly), Larry (Patricia), Terry (Gladys), Randy (Kathy), Timothy (Rebecca) and daughter Patricia Bishop (Mike), 23 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren and two sisters, Marilyn and Patricia. He is preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, wife Elaine and 3 granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday June 4, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Estates Redwood, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan.
